Before the appearance of the series MIX, the high range of Xiaomi was captained by devices like the Mi 5 or the Mi 6. We already know the new king of the house of the Chinese manufacturer. Or do we say, kings? And the Xiaomi Mi 8 is three. Yes, the Chinese house has brought three versions of its flagship that will not leave anyone indifferent.
Xiaomi Mi 8: screen and camera as strengths
An iPhone clone?
Already the rumours about the design of the Mi 8 disappointed us in his day. Now that the smartphone is a reality we can say: the eye is an iPhone X. Yes, they look too much. And it is clear that the trend sometimes sends and that the notch is something that we are already more than accustomed, even so, the similarities with the flagship of Apple in terms of design are amazing are: elegant and thin body, a screen almost without edges, a notch and a double camera in the back.
Double camera with Artificial Intelligence
The Mi 8 has a double 12MP camera, the main one of which adopts a Sony IMX363 sensor, double pixel focus, 4-axis optical stabilization system and f / 1.8 aperture. The next is a telephoto lens based on a Samsung sensor.
The new Xiaomi Mi 8 uses artificial intelligence in its camera just like the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S already did. The layout of the module in the new Mi 8 reminds us again of the flagship of the Cupertino. Of course, it exceeds quality. If we take a look at the DxOMark tests it takes the lead to Apple in the camera part.
The Mi 8 is in fourth place with 99 points (flanked by the S9 Plus) and followed by the Pixel 2 and the iPhone X. This may be due to the artificial intelligence that manifests itself in the portraits (with the Studio Lightning function), in the optimization of selfies (with Beautify), and in the recognition of subjects and scenes.
The first GPS with dual frequency
One of the most surprising news has to do with GPS, as we had already told you. Now it’s official. The Xiaomi MI 8 is ready to use for the first time a GPS chip of dual frequency (L1 and L5), in particular, the one announced by Broadcom in September: the BCM47755.
This chip seems to be able to improve the accuracy of position detection by means of GPS technology (up to approximately 30 cm). Of course, it is not any function that revolutionizes the use of the smartphone but it is a real pleasure to see how Xiaomi is committed to improving not only what is obvious. Bravo!

The new Xiaomi flagship features the latest high-end Qualcomm processor, the Snapdragon 845, which is accompanied by 6/8 GB of RAM and 64/128/256 GB of internal memory. The front panel is almost entirely occupied by a Samsung AMOLED screen with diagonal of 6.21 ” and format 18, 7: 9.

- It offers a transparent glass housing that allows you to see the internal components.
- Like the Huawei Mate RS Porsche Design, it has a fingerprint sensor integrated into the screen that should be able to distinguish between different levels of pressure for the first time.
- It offers 3D facial recognition, which works just like on iPhone X. And it also includes Animoji.
The price of Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer Edition amounts to 3,999 yuan, almost 536 euros.
Xiaomi Mi 8 SE: with Snapdragon 710
The Mi 8 SE, with its 5.88-inch screen with AMOLED technology and also with a notch, is slightly smaller than the other two models. Inside houses a Snapdragon 710, the chip recently released by Qualcomm that promises to be really good.
The Xiaomi Mi 8 SE is the smallest model and also the cheapest: it arrives in China with a label of 1,999 yuan, which translates into something less than 270 euros.
